Last Minute Conference Information!

Registration

If you have not pre-registered and plan to register in person at the conference, please keep in mind that we will only be able to take cash or checks for the registration fee, not credit cards.  Registration fee information is available here:  https://nlgsouthernregion.wordpress.com/regional-conference/register/

CLE

This conference has been approved by the Florida Bar for a total of 11.5 CLE credits, including 2 ethics credits.  The CLE Course Number will be provided when you sign in at the conference.  Florida Bar members can then post their CLE credits at the conclusion of the conference on the Florida Bar website, www.floridabar.org.  Out-of-state attorneys should check with their own state bar to see if they can obtain CLE credit for the conference.

Parking

The parking lot just outside the law school is closed for construction, but all other lots that are not under construction are open to us WITHOUT PERMITS.    So even if it says “permit parking,” the restriction is lifted on the weekends.

We suggest trying to park in Lot 2-109, which is located at the corner of Campo Sano Avenue and Brunson Drive, and is the closest to the School of Law.  You can get to that lot by getting on Campo Sano, then turning into the campus on Brunson Drive, and the lot is on the right.  It’s in front of the Dooley Memorial Classroom Building and is bordered by the School of Nursing and Allen Hall.  After parking, you will walk toward the Memorial Building, pass through the Memorial Breezway, and cross the green, keeping to the right of the Ashe Building.  Continue straight, passing the Richter library on your left, and the law school will be right in front of you, on the left side.

A map showing the parking areas and university buildings is available here:     www6.miami.edu/communications/expression_images/site/maps/2011_2012_cg_campusmap.pdf

Lot 2-109 appears on the map in red.  The parking area around the law school that is closed for construction appears on the map in purple.

Attire

Dress is casual – this is, after all, a Guild conference.

Car pool information

There will be a sign up sheet at the registration table where folks can volunteer to provide car pool transportation to and from the social events, the conference or the Food Not Bombs food sharing, or to sign up that they need a ride.  A similar sign-up sheet will be available at the concierge desk at the Coral Gables Holiday Inn.

Airport transportation

Anyone still needing transportation to or from the airport should contact Linda Gallun at gallunemail@aol.com.

Weather

The forecast for Saturday and Sunday is a high of 83 degrees and a low of 73 degrees, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms.  So bring your shades and your umbrella to cover all possibilities.  You might also want to bring a jacket or sweater in case it’s cold in the room at the law school where the conference is being held (Florida buildings are notoriously cold due to the AC running nonstop).

Schedule

The conference schedule is available here:  https://nlgsouthernregion.wordpress.com/regional-conference/panels/  Please note that we have moved up the time for check-in and registration at the conference on Saturday to 8:00 a.m. instead of 8:30, to allow everyone more time to get settled in.  And on Sunday, we have moved the time up to 8:30 a.m. instead of 8:45.

Conference Materials

This is largely a paperless conference.  Materials will be available online for you to download from the Southern Region website here:   https://nlgsouthernregion.wordpress.com/regional-conference/2012-conference-materials/    This material is password protected, and the password will be provided to those who have registered for the conference.   Some limited written materials will be distributed at the conference.

Internet Access

We have been told that there is wireless internet access available at the University of Miami Law School and that no password is required.

Breakfast

As indicated on the conference schedule, we will be providing coffee, bagels, donuts and fruit on Saturday and Sunday morning.  There will also be bottled water and seltzer available.

Lunch

There is a Subway sandwich shop located right there at the law school that will be open on Saturday and Sunday and which may be your best bet to grab some lunch without having to go off campus.  On Saturday, we will be taking a lunch break from 12:30 to 2:10, during which time we will be showing a film from 1:00 to 2:10, so you may want to get your lunch at Subway or, alternatively, drive to an off-site place and bring your lunch back so that you have time to watch the movie.  On Sunday, the conference is scheduled to end around 1:00, and we will be doing a food sharing (vegetarian food) starting at around 2:15 p.m. in downtown Miami in front of the American Airlines Arena, which is located at 601 Biscayne Boulevard.  Those participating in the food sharing should meet on the corner of NE 6th St and North Miami Avenue in downtown Miami (including those who are coming by carpool from the conference).

Dinner

As indicated on the conference schedule, there will be an informal dinner get-together at Marhaba restaurant on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday night, our party will take place at Titanic Brewery, where we will be providing appetizers and 2 drink tickets per person and where dinner will be available for purchase.
